The EduCHI Steering Committee invites Expressions of Interest (EOIs) from individuals or teams interested in hosting the EduCHI Symposium in 2027 or 2028.
EduCHI is an international symposium at the intersection of Human-Computer Interaction (HCI) and education. The symposium grew out of an HCI Education Workshop at CHI 2018, and has been held annually since 2019, first in conjunction with the ACM CHI conference (2019-2023), and then as an independent event organized in cooperation with ACM SIGCHI (2024-2026). Proceedings have been published in the ACM Digital Library each year since 2022.
EduCHI 2027 will be the first edition as a fully ACM SIGCHI-sponsored conference, and selected organizers will work with the Steering Committee and SIGCHI to meet conference guidelines and requirements.
At this stage, we are seeking brief, lightweight proposals to identify promising sites and organizing teams. Selected respondents will be invited to develop a more detailed proposal. Note that because SIGCHI sponsorship was confirmed recently, the timeline for 2027 is compressed, and selected organizers may need to move quickly on ACM paperwork following notification.
What We’re Looking For
We have historically used a three-day conference model, with one day for the pedagogy workshop and two days for paper presentations, but are open to other allocations that advance HCI educational research and build the HCI education community of practice. We are particularly interested in proposals that demonstrate:
- Low- or no-cost conference venue (e.g., university-hosted space) that can accommodate 50-75 in-person attendees (EduCHI 2025 had 53 attendees, 32 in-person)
- Affordable accommodation options for attendees
- A commitment to high-quality hybrid participation that supports both in-person and remote paper presentations and attendance (as has been standard practice at EduCHI since 2022)
- A location that is accessible, including:
- International travel and visa accessibility
- Disability access (venue and local infrastructure)
Experience with SIGCHI conferences or ACM processes is beneficial—especially for 2027—but not required.
